Is there a step-by-step guide to implementing the resolution field properly?

Here are my goals:  

1.  Ensure that users can select a resolution when any work item moves to a 'done' state. 

2.  Prevent all new issues from requiring a resolution.  This results in the new issue being created but with a strikethrough. 

I've spent hours on this and I cannot seem to get it to work properly, specifically around #2 above.  

Do I need a new screen scheme for 'new' items?  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Christina - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

1. To allow users to select the Resolution when it is moved to Done, you need to create a new transition screen (really just a screen) that has the Resolution field present on the screen. 

Then update the transition in your workflow to attach the new form. Click on the transition in the workflow, then select Edit. Then add the screen through the drop down. 

Be sure to publish the workflow. 

2. When you test number 1, see if there is an option to not select a value. In other words, when the form comes up, can you just Click on the Done button (or whatever you called the transition name)?

Ah, I see your screenshot now. You need to remove the Resolution field from the Create screen.

That fixed it!! The part I was missing was the creation of the new screen and the association to the transition.  I couldn't find that mentioned anywhere else on the site.  Thank you for the quick response. :D
