I have 2 teams that use Jira Kanban boards. I understand that the Advanced Roadmaps allows you to perform capacity planning. I have watch a lot of YouTube videos on Advanced Roadmaps Capacity Planning but all of them are for Scrum Sprint Boards.
We used to have the Big Picture app, where I used the Resources section to perform my capacity planning. This is no longer available to us. Is there a way to perform capacity planning in Jira Roadmaps for a Kanban board? And on the individual team members?
Welcome to the Community!!
Create a separate board with each sprint for each version or however convenient, and then include the sprint in roadmaps. It also needs estimated data (Story points or original estimate as well in order to manage capacity.

Pramodh,
Good Morning and thanks for replying. If I am understanding this correctly, only SCRUM boards with Sprints are able to use the capacity planning functionality in Jira Premium. Am I correct? If this correct, is there a timeline as to when capacity planning for Kanban boards that use timelines instead of sprints will be available?
Thanks,
Shirley

I am wondering how this is a valid answer. The initial question refers to Kanban projects, and the response seems to refer to Scrum where we have Sprints. The link used in the response refers to Scrum project, not saying anything about Kanban work.
I see If I associate the source as board for Kanban projects it allows to do capacity planning, but the iteration length is only per week. I was not able to find where to configure iteration length. What about the work in the backlog that is not reflected in the board, we are doing future planning, so I would say we need to configure the issue source as project, so we can include all the pending work in the backlog. That is my understanding, but I am not sure, how linking source as board level how we can include the work in the backlog. If the only approach for having available capacity planning is to set the issue source as board, my understanding is that we are missing un planned work in the backlog.
The only workaround I suspect the answer is referring is that you can replicate the Kanban board with a Scrum board with the same filter conditions for the sole purpose of doing capacity planning, that would duplicate the board just to overcome this limitation, then in Jira Advanced Roadmap (JAR) uses as source the Scrum board, then you will have all capacity analysis features JAR has for Scrum boards, having a Kanban Jira project, since it allows having a Scrum board for a Kanban project.
