Issue Types - Hierachy.

Simon Brandreth January 18, 2023

Hi,

By default presented with Issue Types - EPIC - BUG - STORY - TASK.

If adding a new issue type for example INITIATIVE, how do I make this the top level issue type.

ie. INITIATIVES are made up of EPICS... EPICS are made up of STORYs... STORYs made up of TASKs.

Hi Simon!

If I understand you correctly, you want to set a custom issue type called "Initiative" as the highest level of issue in your instance.

To do this, you have to go here and add it:

  • <your-domain-name>.atlassian.net/jira/settings/issues/issue-hierarchy

Hit the "Create level", add the "initiative" issue type and arrange them at your own will.
Remember to click "Save Changes".

AlsoChanges to the hierarchy configuration will only apply to plans in Advanced Roadmaps.

I'm trying to do the same thing, and create a 5 level hierarchy with a few new types, and t's letting me create the types, but it doesn't seem to be allowing me to establish the hierarchy I want? Thoughts? I want Project --> Stage --> Epic --> Story --> Task --> Sub Task, with Milestone and Deliverable as additional Sub Tasks...
