Pictures uploading as *.pvt from Jira mobile app?

We have used the mobile app extensively in the past to upload pictures to Jira.  They always uploaded as a *.png, but now they're uploading as *.pvt.  Why? This format is not usable for our environment.

I just raised a bug and communicated the problem to the proper team.

How can you vote for it? I don't see a vote button. I would love to give it some love.

Sorry, voting is enabled for features, not bugs.

You can watch the issue and it will tell you when we add a comment or close it :)

Hi @Carlos Khatchikian .

At my customers instance the same problem appears. When uploading photoes in mobile app, photoes are uploaded as .pvt.

The user that reported this issue is using IOS, an Iphone.

Right, that is not Jira's bug. That is the format that Apple's Camera sends when a live photo is used.

That was really helpful.  I eliminated live photo from my iphone and now, I am able to upload .jpg again.

However, when I attach a photo in the comment, the Jira ios app does not refresh, and I don't have a button to either send, or have a keyboard to type comments.  Buggy feeling.  Awaiting a Jira app update.

@Carlos Khatchikian

You say that is not a bug, but why is that EVERY OTHER app in the app store knows how to handle the new iOS photo extension? Your app should be able to convert to JPG or PNG and it should be usable. iOS implemented this new file picture and video file formats with iOS 11 in September of 2017. Do you have a timeframe when the mobile Jira app on iOS will handle these files properly? They can't be viewed on mobile or web once uploaded. I would say that turning off the live feature is a work around "band-aid" but not a fix or solution. Most people will have that turned on by default on their iPhones.

Don't get me wrong, I DO NOT like that they changed the file format. Microsoft's own iOS app, OneDrive, also uploads the raw format but does not include the codec on their windows machines to properly view the file.

I do appreciate the smaller compressed file size which enables me to store my 50,000 iPhone pictures for less, but from a techy side, it makes compatibility and conversion a real issue for the rest of the world.

Hi @Bethany Holt , I am manager of the Jira Mobile Apps.

Can you tell me in which platforms are you seeing this problem (iOS, Android)?

Would you mind maybe uploading a small video so we can understand the flow?

Thanks!

Hi @Carlos Khatchikian ,

This is happening with iOS.

We discovered it happens when the photo is taken as a "Live" photo.  If the photo is taken with the Live setting turned off, the issue is resolved (the photo uploads as .jpg as expected).

Hi @Bethany Holt

I did a quick search and did not find anything on the community forum or in the public backlog for this symptom, and I suggest that you create a support ticket for it:
