Jira does not have field level security. So a workaround online is to hide a certain field in View screen and show it only in Create and Edit screen. Then grant Edit Issue permission to certain users so view only users cannot access the field.
We are using Jira Cloud. After I implemented the workaround, how can I access a specific issue in Edit screen? I expect the Edit link in Issue Ops Bar or somewhere. Clicking the link, the issue is opened/shown in Edit screen and the field is accessible. But I could not find the Edit link and do not know who to open an issue in Edit screen.
To troubleshoot it, I checked the system plugin: Issue Operations Plugin. The View Issue Ops Bar Edit Link modules are enabled.
Thanks much in advance for you help!
Hi Bin Liang,
From my understanding, you cannot find "Edit" button, to edit the issue? Is this right? If yes, in the new issue view in Jira Cloud, there's no "Edit" button. If the field is editable and you have the permission to Edit Issue, then when you click on the field, you would be able to edit the value.
Hope that helps.
I think, Bin Liang said that we used to put different fields between edit and view screen.
Jira permit that we associate view and edit screens. Than the question is, how we acess the screen associated to edit action?
Now, when we associante a screen in edit action, I don't now how access in the new view option (that don't have the edit botton).

The new issue view in Jira cloud does not give you the access to "Edit" screen, like how it was in the old view. In the new view, all the editing is done inline, which means that if you just add the field in edit screen and not in view screen too, even if the field has a value, you won't see the field when you view the issue.
There's an existing feature request ticket on this, https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-70073 - Unable to edit issue with edit issue screen from new issue view
