Hello,
i want to add new status for Epics and Stories - I created a workflow and assigned it to a workflow scheme.
But can't activate this yet as the project does not appear to be allowed to link to workflow scheme in order to activate.
I have basic status (i.e. to do, in progress and done) which is not allowing me to manage day to day project work. I have admin access

You cannot change out Workflow Schemes for Next-gen Projects. You have to modify the originally created workflow by adding and rearranging columns on your board.
If you need additional functionality, you would need to create a Classic software project and move the issues from your Next-gen project to the new Classic project.
