Hello -
I have for example Initiative A and reference a project. I don't want all of the Epics to be part of Initiative A, just a couple. How do I limit the ones only for Initiative A?
Thanks, Jeff
Hi @Jeff Murray
you would need to use Parent Link field and have it available in Epic screen, then from there you can choose either to link the EPic to an initiative or not.
Hello Antuan -
I added the parent link field to the Epics. However, the Single Project Demo plan is not available. I must have missed a step somewhere.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Jeff

hello @Jeff Murray
please correct me if i got it wrong, do you mean by " Single Project Demo plan" an advanced roadmap view which shows you only one initiative and relevant linked epics?
if no, i would kindly ask you to explain a bit further and maybe provide a screenshot of what you are referring to and where you are expecting to see this plan in Jira.

Hi Antuan -
First screen shot shows the Single Project Demo timeline and the Epics in that project.
The second screen shows clicking into the Epic SMP-2 and the parent link field was added. However, there is not the choice for this timeline.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi @Jeff Murray
we would need to do some checks in order to make sure all setup is correct:
1- check what is the "issues source" for your roadmap, is it a board or a filter then..
2- check that board or filter and make sure that the created initiatives are showing there, if not please updated the config of the board/filter to include the initiatives
3- in your roadmap, click on filters button (which is showing just above the timeline table) and next to the option called "Hierarchy" please make sure to select From: Initiative To: (you choose to what depth you want to see in your roadmap)
4- make sure no other filters are applied under Filters menu that you selected in step 3
5- make sure to go to Plan Settings from left menu on the screen and check exclusion rules to ensure nothing would be added there to prevent showing initiatives or maybe some other stuff that you are interested in

Hello Antuan -
Okay, I have it working now. Another 2 questions.
#1. For example, I have 5 Epics however, I don't want 2 to show in the roadmap. It brings in all 5 Epics and 2 will say there is no parent. I understand that, just don't want them brought in to the roadmap.
#2. In the project its self, how can I see only the initiatives? If I select timeline, shows only epics.
Thanks,
Jeff

#1 you have two ways, one to exclude these two epics from the main filter/board that the roadmap is reading from. another solution, is to add a specific label/component to the epics/initiatives that you want to see then click on Filters button (same one you used earlier) and select next to label/component the one assigned to tickets you want to see.
#2 you want to see only initiatives where exactly in the project? in the board or in the roadmap?
in roadmap, go to filter then choose any of the available filters to show only epics (in this case you need to use issue type filter) then you will see only epics, now to save it so you will be able to go back easier to it you need to click on the dropdown next to Filters which is showing Basic and select create new view from bottom of it....and keep doing the same for each new set of config you want to have for this roadmap, so one view for epics only, another for the epics and initiatives without the 2 epics you dont want and so on..
hope the above helps :)

Hello Antuan -
For #2 in the project (board). Currently, in our projects, left panel, we have "timeline" not roadmap. So I want to see the initiatives in the project, please advise.
Thanks,
Jeff

hi @Jeff Murray
for this view which you want to use "Timeline" accessible from board view in the left panel, the highest level there is Epic.
to see Initiatives in a view similar to this you need to use Advanced Roadmaps.

Okay, would be nice to see at the project level since there could be multiple Initiatives.
Thanks for all of your support.
