Automatically add comment to pop-up screen on transition

Priyanka Badugu January 12, 2023

Hi,

I saw a lot of questions and answers on how to automatically add a comment in the post-function of a workflow transition. But my requirement is to add a comment to the pop-up screen when the state is changed, so devs can go in and answer the questions in the comment. Any idea how to achieve this? I've tried the JMWE add-on, but it can add in the post function only.

Thanks,

Priyanka

@Priyanka Badugu hi!

Sorry for asking, but it's not quite clear to me what you want to achieve. Let's say that you have two statuses A and B. And someone transitions the issue from A to B. Then a transition screen appears, with a comment box, for the user to write something.

The above can be achieve quite easily and with the out of the box Jira functionalities. Is this what you want to achieve, or am I missing something?

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, that is what I want to achieve, but take it to the next level by making this comment box pre-populated with a set of questions that the user who transitioned the issues needs to fill before the state is moved.

Are these questions static or dynamic? They depend on what?

If e.g. you have 5 questions which are fixed, then simply create them as fields (text, single select, you name it) and place them on the transition screen. Then add validators during the transition, so that the user can't proceed if he/she doesn't answer to all these questions.

Currently the isn't a way to place a read only text on a transition screen, and adaptavist's "Behaviours" which would do wonders on Jira server, can't do that currently on cloud.

The questions are static and same across all issuetypes/projects.

I like the idea of creating a new field. We explored this idea but got shot down since we did not want to add new fields after the ticket has passed through certain states. But given that there is not easy way or no way to do it, guess I'll give it a try.

Thanks for your responses Alex!
