Board Column Width & Size in Team and Company Managed Projects

Hello!

I noticed that there is a difference in column sizes between Team & Company Managed Projects. The column width in team-managed projects is larger than the company-managed project. I am using the same number of columns in both projects yet the size of each column is different. How can i have the same larger column size of the team-managed projects in my company-managed projects?

Can you provide screen images of what you are seeing?

I actually see larger columns in the Company Managed project.

SOrry for the late reply. Your columns in the company-managed project is large because you have 3 columns only. I have around 8 columns. So, my column size is way smaller. However, when i had the same 8 columns in my team-managed project the columns size was fixed the same way in your image and a horizontal scroll bar would appear. however, in my current company managed project, the same 8 columns is way smaller than your team-managed one. i just want the columns to be atleast consistent between both. and to make the team-managed view the default.

Column width adjusts automatically based on the browser window size, trying to include all columns in the windows but making them no less than a minimum width. If all columns can't be displayed at that minimum width then the horizontal scroll bar is shown (by the browser).

I have not been able to find a change request yet about being able to configure the minimum column width or set it to a fixed value. Feel free to do some additional searching yourself, or open the suggestion.

You are right. Actually, I found multiple tickets and issues submitted about adding this feature about setting our own custom width. But all of them are not yet approved.

However, what you said is right about the minimum width before the scroll bar appears. Yet, there should be a consistent way to apply such a thing. How come with the same number of columns (8), i get different column sizes in the team-managed and company-managed projects? Why is the company-managed smaller than the other one? I thought there would be a specific or an extra option for the company-managed projects to at least make the columns larger to the same size of the team-managed ones.

Team Managed projects is a newer functionality set than Company Managed projects. You may notice that there is different functionality available in the boards for a variety of elements for each of these project types. The functionality is not currently in lock step.

I can't speak to Atlassian's design decisions regarding column width and I have no knowledge of the actual technical implementation behind the boards. Maybe the technology used in the implementation is different and impacted what they could do.
