On the backlog page I would like to add a few more columns to the display. this will help us in managing the backlog and planning for the next sprint ahead of time.
Hello @Vijendra Malhotra
Is your board for a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project? That information should display at the bottom of the panel on the left when you are viewing the board/backlog.
If your board is for a Company Managed project then you can add more fields to display on the issue cards. Is that what you mean by "adding columns"? If not, please provide more information about what that means.
It is not currently possible to add fields to issue cards on a board/backlog for a Team Managed project. There is a change request to which you can add your vote/comments, if your scenario concerns a Team Managed project board:
i hav eboth the projects
for the Company Managed i can't find the relevant setting though

Again, if you are talking about adding issue fields to the issue cards that display, for a board associated with a Company Managed Software project you would find that option by clicking on the "..." button in the upper right corner of the board and selecting Configure Board
Then you would select the Card Layout option.
Note that this applies only to a Company managed Software project. It does not apply to Team Managed Software projects.
