Can i create a kanban board for an existing project?

hello house,

I created a project in service management which by default doesnt have kanban board template and now the team needs a kanban board project. So is it possible to add a kanban board to an existing project in service management?

Second question, how can i make other projects visible in the Help Center portal and not just projects created with service managemnt. For example, a product management project showing in the Help Center portal.

Thank you

Hello @Adebayo Banjo

Actually, if the service management project is a Company Managed project, then you can make a Kanban board for it. You won't see a link for that kanban board in the navigation pane for the project, and you can't make it visible on the customer portal.

To make a kanban board for the project:

1. Go to the Boards list for your instance.
https://<yourURL>/jira/boards?contains=

2. Click on Create Board

3. Click Create a Kanban Board

4. Select "Board from an Existing Project"

5. In the Project field select your service management project.

6. For Location you will be able to select only from Company Managed Software project, or your own name. Because of that you won't be able to "attach" the board to the navigation pane of the service management project.

hello @Trudy Claspill ,

Thanks for the response. Yes I cant see the board in the navigation pane of the service management project. Will the project admin be able to see the board when they search for the board name from there end? like for instance, if they just want to view the board from there profile??

Is there any solution to be able to view the board in the navigation pane?

Thank you

Hello @Adebayo Banjo

You could use the "Add Shortcut" feature to add a link to that new board. It won't be in the drop-down list of boards, like you would see in a Company Managed project, but at least the link would be present in the navigation pane.

HI Adebayo,

Sure, you can do that. Here's a link to a recent article I wrote that walks you through the process and pitfalls.

You cannot create a Kanban board in a JSM project, that is specific for Jira Software projects. But what you can do in a company-managed JSW project is to modify the filter that the Kanban board is using so it also include the JSM project, that is how I do it for all of our change requests so we can plan our work in sprints.

Your portal can only show JSM projects, there are currently a EAP for adding external content to the portal, but that would just be a link to your product management project, and users would only be able to access it as long as they have a Jira license assigned to them.
