Company standard workflow (y) ... but company standard boards?

Dirk Spannaus November 15, 2023

I started to standardize our PM a bit more in Jira. Happy to have a standard workflow, which is now the same in every new project. I tried to find out, if I also can have a standard board (Kanban / Jira) for all company managed projects.

There was an article that gave the impression. However - I fail to find the right path.

So is there a way to generate company standard boards? Or do they need to be recreated?

Hi @Dirk Spannaus ,

Welcome to Atlassian community!

As per my understanding, you just want to create a board and configure a company standard board.

Please find the below Atlassian article to configure.

Thanks Sanjen,

it looks like the first link shows how to define a corporate board instance, not like a template always coming with a new company defined project? Am I right?

The second link shows an example about a board for several projects. Can I use wildcards here, like all projects in a certain project category?

Thanks for your help.

If I understand the question,  a Kanban Board (like any board) is driven by what is returned through a filter.  And then the visibility a person has to the those issues is driven by permissions.

So you can create one board and one filter to pull in all issues.  The risk is the amount of data being pulled in.  You may need to experiment a bit to balance having to manage several identical boards versus performance.  And you may also be driven to duplicate boards based on the universe of board administrators.

Also worth noting:

  • Swim lanes and quick filters are great way to make a single board more personal and effective.
  • The "good ol' fashion" Dashboard from the original Jira days is still one of my favorite tools.   Can provide an excellent management summary.  Two dimensional filters seem to be the most effective widget.

I know I've spouted a couple thoughts here.   Let me know if you're interested in expanding on any of them.

Thanks

Maybe I'm not fully understanding the Jira principles yet.
When I start a new company project, it will come predefined with my ✨carefully handcrafted✨ workflow ;)

Are boards never directly connected also to projects? I know I can create trillions of boards. But is there no 1:1 connection with a board and a project in a company project as well? I would like them to come with predefined board columns and filters, instead of adjusting them for every project again?
