Hey this is a great ask, though a smaller chunk size problem worth asking for is to Templatize Filters and Dashboards.

This would be too useful, and getting project teams setup vs. reinventing the wheel each time.  Which means it won't be done!! Surely that is the Atlassian way.

This is really much needed when scaling with teams in a group or scaling with groups in a business unit or scaling with business units in an enterprise.  Where we see common patterns of operation and need to align on shared operational data (attributes), then templates driven by Project ID and Team names are the only drivers in an agreed template for encapsulated in filters with an agreed set of fields for operation.

As I said it is too valuable and would reduce the time people spend on Jira hence it won't happen.

Hi @Sanjeeva Samarawira

On the Free plan - aside from the default templates provided by Atlassian - you cannot create a project which shares configuration with another. You'll need to upgrade to at least the Standard plan to do this.

If you upgrade, you can:

  1. Go to Projects > Create project
  2. During the first creation step, check the box "Share settings with an existing project"
  3. On creation, this will utilise any schemes which can be shared across both projects - eg. permissions, workflows, screens, etc

This is for configuration though - for the issues there isn't a standard way of bulk cloning - you'd need to consider either:

  • Export / Import: Exporting the issues via CSV and import them into the new project
  • Apps: An app from the Marketplace - such as Deep Clone or Clone Plus

In addition to Ste's precise description I'd like to add that you might also have to (re-)set the respective/fitting filter. We tried something similar to what you describe @Sanjeeva Samarawira and I followed the path @Ste Wright described, but we didn't have the proper results until we re-set the filter.

Or did I make a mistake you can also solve @Ste Wright ?

Thanks in advance and have a nice day :-)

Welcome to the Atlassian Community, @Sanjeeva Samarawira .

Thank you for mentioning Deep Clone for Jira@Ste Wright .

You can indeed bulk clone up to 5000 issues at once with our app Deep Clone.

If you have questions or feedback about our app, don't hesitate to get in touch with our support.

Hi @Sebastian Mühleis

Not sure what you mean by reset the filter, can you clarify?

Hi @Ste Wright ,

my fault - my English is quite okay I guess, bit still not mother-tongue ;-)

Not reset, as common in IT, but re-set, like re-select. We had the problem that, although we followed your steps, we had to change to a/create a new filter, before everything worked properly. Even though we had a filter set in the project we use as template for the other projects.

Is it now more understandable?

Hi @Sebastian Mühleis

You had to reselect filters for boards? Or dashboards?

To some extent there is a few other optional steps when creating from shared configuration - eg. there isn't a board created by default like with a non-shared configuration.

But it's less steps than having to configure all the project configuration options :)

Hi @Ste Wright ,

a new filter for the respective board.

And you're definitely right that it's less steps than reconfiguring everything.

Hi @Sebastian Mühleis

Yes you're correct - because you don't create the project from scratch you don't get a board - and subsequently a board filter - for use with the new project.

You have to create those manually after the project with shared configuration is created.
