Whenever I update a ticket description or post a comment, Jira will insert a bunch of special formatting, which appears to be markdown. However, instead of rendering it into the correct HTML for display, it just shows the raw syntax, so comments are full of garbage.
For example, if someone posts a URL like:
"Hey Bob, check out http://example.com"
It shows up like:
"Hey Bob, check out [http://example.com]"
How do I either turn off this auto-markup insertion, or get Jira to render it correctly?
Hello Chris,
Thank you for your feedback.
Actually, this is a strange behavior that I was not able to reproduce from our side. As you can see in the screenshot below, it is displaying just like I type it in the ticket description:
That been said, could you please provide a video or the screenshot displaying how you are typing the URLs and how it is being displayed? Are you using the new issue view or the old one?
Also, could you provide us the browser you are using? Is it reproducing on multiple browsers? Maybe it can be related to some plugin in your browser.
Additionally, to deactivate the Markup on a specific JIRA field, you can navigate to your project > Project settings > Fields > Actions > Click to edit fields. Then, find the field you would like to edit and click on Renderers, changing it to Default Text Renderer.
We will be waiting for your answer to better understand the issue.
It happens in the new view, every time I edit the description or comment.

My description field is already set to "Default Text Renderer". Why is that renderer adding markup?

Hello Chris,
That's strange, once I can not reproduce this problem in my own Cloud Instance. I wonder if it is not being caused by any add-on on your site.
Provide, provide us with the following information so we can better analyze and try to reproduce the problem:
- A video or the screenshot displaying how you are typing the URLs and how it is being displayed? Are you using the new issue view or the old one?
- Can you provide us the browser you are using? Is it reproducing on multiple browsers? Maybe it can be related to some plugin in your browser.
- Is it occurring for every single user in your site? Have you tried to reproduce the problem from different machines?
We will be waiting for your answer.
