I can't create subtask in an issue

Jane Kao October 21, 2020

When creating the subtask within the issue , while submitting "Create" button, an error message shows up as Summary: You must specify a summary of the issue.

I've tried both new and old view, both does not work. I've checked the subtask setting in the Field Configuration, "Summary" is not set as required.

Can anyone please advise where I might have missed? Thank you

Hi @Jane Kao

The Summary field can be set to required through a validator in the workflow, so you can either add the summary field to the sub-task create screen, or remove it from the workflow.

Best regards,
Eduardo

Isn't there a custom field with this same name? Have you checked the workflow validators?

It worked! Thank you!

Hi Jane,

The Summary field is always required on every issue type and there is no way to change that.

Make sure the field is on the Create Screen. I see that it is in your last screenshot but I am suspicious that this is not the system Summary field as it does not have a red asterisk next to it.

The other think is to check the Field Configuration for that project for the Sub-task issue type to see if the field might be hidden.
