Issues Not Appearing on Board

Neil Kugelman

We’re using team managed Jira and for some reason certain issues are not appearing on our main board.

I've attached one example:

DSN-356 should be appearing in the column “Archive” on this board but it’s not appearing in this column or any column. I am only able to find DSN-356 if I manually edit the URL.

It seems to me that there must be a filter setting that has to be changed but I can't find where to do this.

I’ve gone through a bunch of the posts on the community board but I can't find exactly where in settings to make the changes that are suggested in the different solutions.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

Hi @Neil Kugelman

In your screen image, it appears that the Archived status is in the last column on your board, indicating it is "done"...

And the boards for team-managed projects automatically hide done-issues after 14 days.

There is a suggestion to make that timeframe configurable, which you may watch/vote for here to see progress: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-22312

Kind regards,
Bill

Thanks. That's helpful.
Do you have a suggestion for a work-around?
Like creating a dummy last column? Do you think this would work? If I do this, will it un-hide issues that are currently not hidden?
Also, if I change the status category of "Archive" from "Done" to "To Do", do you think that would help?
Thanks

To answer your questions in reverse order...

I do not believe changing the "status category" will impact the behavior of the last board column for a team-managed project; it treats it as "done".

Next, this is essentially a question of how your team decides to manage work...What does "Archived" mean for your team?

  • If it means something like "let's work on this later", I recommend moving the item to the backlog rather than adding another column
  • If "Archived" means something more like "we are going to think about this for a while, and not too long..." perhaps add an in-progress column in your flow
  • Otherwise, there really isn't a workaround to alter this behavior for team-managed projects.  The only other alternative would be to switch to a company-managed project for more flexibility (and maintenance handling) for the board.  There are pros/cons for that choice, so look here if you are considering it, and read the fine-print: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/migrate-between-team-managed-and-company-managed-projects/

Thanks for the quick reply, you've been very helpful.

I'll review that page to see if it's worthwhile for us to make the switch.

Thanks again.

Hi @Neil Kugelman ,

After looking over your screenshot I have a couple of questions:

It looks like you have another issue in the Archived column that is also a bug (DSN-383). Is the status for that issue the same as the one you're not able to see on the board?

It also looks like the issues that can be seen in the column to the left of the Archived column are all assigned to you, are all the visible issues on the board ones that are assigned to you? or can you see issues assigned to others?

Hi Luis

Thanks for the response.

Yes, DSN-383 is the same status as this one (DSN-356).

No, there are issues on the board in different columns assigned to other users.

Hi @478 Fatihah -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

For company-managed projects, the board is a view of the issues based on the filter.

If you look at the issue which is not displaying, does it match the board's filter?

If it does, have you checked if there are any quick filters enabled for the board?  If so, try clearing them.

Next, is this a Scrum or a Kanban board?

  • Scrum boards only show the issues which are in the active sprint, and match the board filter
  • Kanban boards show issues matching the filter, and...there is an additional "Kanban board sub-filter" under ... > Board Settings > General.  Please check if that sub-filter is blocking the issue display.

Kind regards,
Bill

@Bill Sheboy thank you for the response.

The issue not in any quick filters.

Sorry Bill, how do i know the project's board is Scrum or Kanban?

you can see below is my interface, the issue already have 150+, but only 12 issues on the resolved status.

Thanks for that image.  That appears to be a Business Project board, which is a type of Kanban board

If you look at the right side of the page you will find a Filter icon/feature.  Please check if any filters are applied to the board.  If so, select Clear Filters.
