Re-open an Epic in JIRA Cloud

Steve Raynes October 6, 2022

We Marked an Epic as Done but we want to change it back to In Progress.

The web has many examples of using the Tool "Bulk Changes" on just the one Epic to change it's Epic Status back to In Progress, or at least not set to Done.

Our project is using the Cloud based JIRA and there isn't ever a Bulk Changes option available. Note: our organisation has the old JIRA (not cloud based) and It's possible to find Bulk Changes in the projects on the old platform. It doesn't appear that the Epic Status can be changed from Done.

Hi Steve,

You need to modify the workflow the project and Epic issue type is using to add a transition from Done back to Open (or whatever status names you are using).

Then add a post function to this transition that Clears the Resolution field. Then add another post function for Update Issue Custom Field. Then choose Epic Status and the value you want to set it to.

Once you have the transition and post function in place, you can do a Bulk change if you have many you need to change. Or just change each issue directly in the issue view.

Thanks John.

Some of this has been locked down for me here at the AEMO, but I have passed these instructions to our JIRA Administrator.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
