Setting different resolutions for different 'Done' statuses

Our project has two different 'Done' statuses: 'Closed' and 'Deferred'. Both of these statuses are valid for any issue type. Is it possible to

  1. Set the default resolution for status 'Deferred' to 'Deferred'
  2. Hide or omit 'Deferred' as a valid resolution for status 'Closed'

hi Sheri,

First one question would be whether you would consider moving to a single done status and simply using the deferred as a resolution code?

Now to your questions specifically..

  1. I am assuming you're using a CMP project. I would recommend that you use a post function on the transition to your deferred status and set the resolution to deferred or won't do or similar. By the way be sure that you also clear of the resolution field upon any exit from a done status.
  2. you can restrict the resolution option by using workflow properties. Adding the following property on transition properties as key values

    jira.field.resolution.include =1,5,7

    1, 5, 7 are example id's for the resolutions. Please refer to this article and note the warning. I have done this once or twice but not something I'm really big on to be honest. If something happens to me it might be a bit challenging for someone else to dig through it unless they have a lot of experience with being a Jira admin.

Thank you Jack! If it were me making the decision I would just go with a single done status but we have a stakeholder who really, really wants to do things this way...
