Visibility of user groups when setting permission scheme

I recently ran into an odd situation where I add a couple new user groups, the 21st and 22nd group, and wanted to add those groups to a project permission scheme.  The group names were not visible in the drop down list box (DDLB).  At the top of the DDLB the text says "showing 20 of 22 matching groups".   JIRA does not allow me to select nor reduce the list by entering text to find these newly entered groups.

I have to go out and delete a few groups to be able to select the groups that I want to set permissions with.

TIL:  If you have spaces in your group name, it won't show in the drop down.  If you create a new group name with no spaces (I used a - to separate words), it shows in the dropdown.  This is probably listed somewhere in creating a group documentation, but I just happened to notice the difference in naming convention and tried it out, and it worked.

Thanks Amy.

I had the same issue. Removed spaces from the group names then type their names directly in the search box, bringing up the groups just fine.

In case anyone runs into this snag again, just start typing in the drop down list box itself and the invisible groups will show up.

Same issue here, even typing in the first letter of the group doesn't show it

absolute nightmare.  I've had to search and read through many posts to figure out why I can't select my group.  This is definitely a bug.  I've wasted hours on a basic task.  Please fix.

I've this problem as well. Created two new groups but none of them is visible when I try to add it to a project. Project > People > Add

Had this problem again today, tried other letters in the name and that seemed to work, thanks so much, would have hoped they sorted this out by now, I see these comments are quite old.

Same issue here (v7.3.2) as we have over a 100 groups and the drop down only lists 20. Typing the first characters to search the groups seems a bit buggy.. I eventually found the group I needed by trying different characters that appear in the group name (not just the leading character). Good luck.

That didnt work for me. I can see my groups in user management but when I go to permissions I can not, even if I perform the test above. Help

Same here- I cannot associate it with the permission scheme I like, because it just won't show in the dropdown, or when I enter partial or all of the text for the new group.

Just checked it again.   Even when I type a few letters in the "group" drop down list box, the system does find nor displays similar matches.  Very frustrating.
