Hi
If a project is using the simplified workflow and workflow is updated where a particular status in removed? In this case what will happen to the already existing issue in the status which is being removed?
Hi @011_avinash
When you remove the status and save the issue, there will be a migration screen that appears where you will need to move any issues currently in that status to another status.
Thanks a ton @John Funk for the speedy response. In my case, I am removing the status in Simplified workflow from Board Setting - > Column screen. Will JIRA give option to migrate issue in this case as well? Also, this migration prompt screen will be coming for all the issue which are on other boards as well under the same project?

Removing a status from your board shouldn’t remove it from the workflow if memory serves me well. This will just be moved out as an unmapped status.
Do issues with an unmapped status will still be in the status but will not appear on your board as there’s no column they are linked to.

Yes, if you delete the status from the workflow it will make you migrate all issues in that status that use that workflow - regardless of the project or board that uses the workflow.
No, if you simply remove the status from the board column it will not cause the migration to happen. And issues can still be moved into and out of the status directly on the issue apart from the board.
