Why can't I find a filter when creating a board?

Can Özcan April 21, 2021

I have some issue filters like

Project--board--description

Project--dashboard--description

Project--chart--description

with that I have them clearly structured.

Now, when I go to my Jira Board settings to change the filter and try to search for Project--board--description it won't be displayed. It looks like I can only find filters which have whitespaces in it.

Additionally:

Ive used the Atlassian contact support button. when filling the first questions I got a link to paste my question here. Lets see how the community can fix that bug..

Hi @Can Özcan

That seems related to this open defect for use of hyphens in board filter names:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-18564

Best regards,

Bill

Thanks. Thats exactly what I am facing.

Since this seems to be an accepted problem I'll mark your reply as the answer.

Just to add, I have also found this problem with other characters like plus + and ampersand & in board names. Remove those and I could find and select the filter.

Hi,

in my case I used the word DEVELOPMENT in about 20 filters and there came a time when I could not use it anymore anywhere in the filter name. That is, I could use it but it did not appear as an option when configuring the board.

An alternative to solve the problem if you want to maintain a criterion with the filter names is to create the filter with another name that does appear as selectable in the board configuration and after selected change the filter name to the initially desired one.

Hi Can,

So do you get some values when you start typing the project? It might be that you have too many filters that start with the same name/value. Try trying in another word that is later in the value that is more unique, like chart or board.

Thanks John,

Ive tried that but it doesn't show than any of my filters. Thats why I came to the conclusion that this only works with whitespaces.

Here is an example:

Lets say I have two more Projects visible, like

OtherProject Dashboard
OtherProject RandomFilter

And I try typing "Dashboard" to use my

Project--dashboard--description

the dropdown menu only displays "OtherProject Dashboard".

Ah, you are probably correct then, it doesn't recognize Dashboard as a separate word. So, yes, it sounds like you need to use spaces.
