×Any way to cut this off? It's kinda silly that JIRA notified me about ticket updates I just made. I'm hoping it's just some default configuration or something causing this, but it's filling up my inbox and seems counter-intuitive to tell someone about the change they themselves just made... help!
@zzalowitz You can control how you are notified by clicking on your profile picture and then selecting Personal Settings from the drop-down. There is a section where notification preferences can be updated.

The default (to "do not notify me on my own changes") can be changed by admins too, so if this has just started happening, your admins have flipped that flag.
It's not a bad way to do things, but if a user has not customised their profile in any way, then they will be using the default profile settings, and if those change... grr. Once you've made any changes in your profile, Jira will always use the settings in there, so you wouldn't be affected by changes of the defaults.
I'd always recommend the admins don't inflict this on their users by default - there's a reason a new Jira defaults to "off"

Thanks, but @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- I am an admin... so not sure about that flipping or why this would be system-level and not user level...
I'm still lost guys - I do not have that button checked, and I have 100's of issues that, when the setting was on, was me as a watcher (and I still DO get notifications because I'm watching, not because I've updated the issue)... it's not a great design, not sure how I get out of this cycle of superfluous updates.... frustrated

There are many ways to get notified by Jira and sometimes its challenging to determine where the notifications are coming from. A few more things to check:
1. Notification schemes
2. Any Automations created through Automations for Jira.
3. 3rd party apps that modify the workflow to allow additional notifications.
As far as you being added as a watcher, just above the email watcher settings, their are settings for auto-watching issues you interact with.

My settings do not have "you make changes to the issue" checked. Just 'you're the assignee..' and 'someone mentions you'.
I just commented on a ticket I don't watch, that I'm not a-signed nor I'm the assignee for. I still got a status transition (the transition came from an Automation). Seems buggy...
