Scrum Board missing and now showing as private

Stacy Lalumondier January 16, 2024

I have a Jira project that had an active scrum board. Today we noticed it wasn't listed in the board drop down. When I view all jira boards, I see a board that I believe may be the board, but it's now listed as private.

How can I get this board to become available again?

  • I can confirm that the board's filter is still active and available under the jira filter list
  • When I use the ... next to the board, all I have are Move and Delete as options, but the board is already assigned to the expected Project, so when I select move, nothing happens.
  • I looked through the audit log and couldn't find any events that would have changed this setting

Even logging in with my system admin doesn't let me change the privacy setting for this board.

This might not be the case here but I just wanted to write here that sometimes the reason why you can't delete or move some private board is behind Team-managed (previusly next-gen) projects. When someone creates next-gen project, there will be a board created with it which shows as a personal private board and administators can't move or delete it, they will gett an error saying:

We couldn't delete this board

Something went wrong. Try again.

We couldn't move this board

Something went wrong. Try again.

But when you inspect the page and see error messages there, they say "Next-gen boards cannot be deleted, because next-gen software projects must have a board".

Can't help with the lost scrum board though.

Have you double checked the permission scheme in use for this project? Its possible for admins to lock themselves out of a project if they don't have browse project permissions.

If the filter is still active you can try just recreating a new board while pointing at the same filter to see if it behaves differently.
