Hi,
I have a customer field which will include a Number (similar a WSJF)
Based on that number I want to rank the backlog automatically..
Any ideas?
Thx
Do not do this, it's a terrible idea and hence there's no way to do it built into Jira.
If you start ranking stuff, then every time you trigger "rank backlog automatically", you will destroy all the ranking the developers and product owners have done, losing all the work they've done on actually working out what really needs to be done.
There's no harm having an option to sort in a report, it can help with the ranking, but re-ranking things from a field (especially one provided by a customer) is an unmitigated disaster and destroys any notion of sensible planning you might be trying to do. The only time you could do it is when you've just created a batch of issues, have done zero refinement on them, and limit that re-ranking to only the new issues, and within that list only.
Indeed, it's a tricky approach.
One of the best practices is to have a Kanban board with a Prioritized column, that is automatically sorted by a priority number like WSFJ. Let me know if you're interested in such an approach.
Meanwhile, I recommend Magic Estimations for estimating numbers for WSJF
