Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×I am a SITE ADMIN.
I go to an an active workflow and click the Edit link.
It takes me to a screen that says that I'm editing a draft, which is fine(this is the draft that JIRA created because the workflow is active). I edit the draft by adding a transition.
I click Save and I get this error in red:
You cannot perform this operation on a draft workflow.
If I try to edit the Active workflow I get a similar error about unable to edit an active workflow.
So what's the deal? How can I make changes to the workflow?
I also tried publishing the Draft first and then editing. Same problem.
There are somethings you can't do on an active workflow. When you run into this scenario you need to make a copy of the workflow, edit the copy and then associate the new version with the issue types desired. There are a number of discussions in the community on this topic where you can find more detail if needed. However if you run into an issue just let me know.
JFC why is that not explained on the error message?!?!?!

This absurd design flaw has finally been resolved in the new workflow editor. You can switch to it on the editor screen. This is one update from Atlassian that has actually fixed things for me 🙌
