What happens to test data/test migrated data in the cloud when time for actual migration?

We are thinking we can use the migration assistant when we migrate to the cloud. However, we are currently playing around with our test cloud environment and will also migrate a test project over to see how it goes. Will this data be overwritten--I know that it would be using the site-import approach. Unsure with the cloud migration assistant.
