Smart value returns negative number

Is anyone able to tell me why the following results in a negative number? This comes from:

https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/examples-of-using-smart-values-with-dates/ 

{{now.diff(issue.created).days}}

just found the answer:

{{now.diff(issue.Created).days.abs}}
