The default issues view for a project loses functionality when filters are applied

When you modify the default "project = "XYZ" ORDER BY created DESC" query in the main issue view page and save it as a filter, invoking the filter causes the view to lose functionality. For example, on the default view you can change the status for any issue through the dropdown in the Status column. When you open it as a filter, the dropdown is gone and you have to click into the issue to change the status.

Is there a way to save a query and have it applied to the main view and not construct this other view?
