We are evaluating JIRA and I saw this somewhere and started to try and figure out what an anonymous user would be and how to test it. Is there anyone who could clue me in on anonymous user usage?
Hmm, I can't actually see a really simple sentence in the docs that make it completely clear without having to read a third of a page, or run searches. So I'll have a go:
An anonymous user is "someone who has not logged in (yet)"
To test it, simply go to https://yourjira.atlassian.net and, well, don't log in. Logout if you've remembered the credentials. Or use private mode if your browser has it, and don't log in.
If I go to the our main online site URL (https://<our company>.atlassian.net) I'm prompted for a login and I have no way of getting past that. So how do I not log in at the login page?

That suggests that you've not enabled much/any anonymous access yet. To test that assumption, I would... (we could make this really hard to run through, so here's a quick and dirty, but zero-risk, test that you can easily clean up later) Create a new project. Add a couple of issues (do not set reporter or assignee if user names are something you're not happy to show to the world). Create a new permission scheme for the project and apply it. Edit the permission scheme, adding "anonymous" to "browse" (note - good practice is to never give anonymous anything other than read permissions) Next, go to admin -> system dashboard, and make sure it has a gadget which will show off the new project in some way Then, go to the url again as a non-logged-in user. You should see the project data. I'd also test hitting the url for one of the new issues.
