When I edit a username, comment mentions do not update

After renaming an existing user, JIRA does not update the reference/mention to that user in comments. Is this intentional or, as part of a site re-index, could JIRA automagically update the username as mentioned in the comment.

We have some problem after integration with Azure AD, basically we rename all user to use their email address as the new username, but all mentions are gone. Is there any way to solve it?

we have that exact situation too- switched to Azure AD, some, but not all historical @mentions are broken

We faced the same problem after integration with external LDAP server and renaming users, all the mentions are broken.

Is there a workarround besides replacing all the stuff in the database ?
