Why are columns of board not named after statuses of workflow

Hey,

I have created a workflow with different statuses as you can see in the picture below. Screenshot 2023-02-23 140353.png

When I create a project the columns of the kanban board are not named like the statuses of my workflow as in the picture below. Screenshot 2023-02-23 125827.png

Instaed the columns are named after the default steps Backlog, Selected for Development, In Progress, Done and not after my statuses. Thats why I have to drag my workflow statuses to the respective columns and rename them. I hope you can follow me and maybe know how to solve it if it is possible. Thanks

Hi Onur,

For Jira Software company-managed projects, this is standard practice. For Jira Work Management (both company-managed and team-managed) projects, the columns are initially named the same as the status.

Hi!

There 2 main reasons for this I can think of:

  • Workflows can be customized and can be different in each project or even for each issue type
  • Columns can contain multiple statuses. E.g. the "Open" column could contain the "open", "new" and "reopened" statuses

If you have a large workflow managing the boards can take some time indeed. But it should not change too often I think.
