Workflow, Screen Scheme , Field Configuration Change

Hello,

I need to change Project A's workflow, screen scheme and field configuration scheme. This project is associated with a general workflow/screen/field configuration scheme which is used by other 30 projects. Therefore I created a new workflow, screens, screen schemes and field configuration schemes that can be updated based on the need. I do not know where to start.

What is the process to do these changes? Is there a way to back up ,just incase something goes wrong? What are the steps?

Thank you.

Elif

I would start with the two that are a pain to undo:

  • Get your workflows right - there are a couple of limitations on what you can do to them once they are associated with any projects (For example: rename, delete steps, and add outgoing transitions to steps that do not yet have any outgoing transitions)
  • Get your workflow scheme right

Associating a new workflow scheme with a project can involve a lot of checks, migrations and questions, and undoing it means repeating all those checks and migrations is just as hard

Slightly easier:

  • Get the custom field contexts correct.  You don't need to think about fields with a global context, but if you have fields with limited contexts and you change the context, you may need to do some migration (adding a field to a new project is no problem, removing it means destroying the data in the field for that project.  Changing the option list for a select list field may mean some migration)
  • Issue security schemes - you may need to do migrations if you are editing the schemes or flipping a project to a new one.  Telling a project to stop using any scheme - fine.

The ones you don't need to worry about are

  • Issue type screen schemes (and issue type schemes in them, and screens in them)
  • Field configuration schemes (and field configurations)
  • Notification schemes
  • Permission schemes

If one of these goes wrong, not a problem.  Flip it back to the old one.
