multiple customers - one project data restriction

rayphvin August 3, 2021

Hi,

we have configured multiple customers under one project and also we are using customer-installation dropdown field to choose correct customer name to user.

Here we wanted to restrict customer user/s and we want them to see only there customer name in dropdown.

In JIRA do we have specific configuration available or do we need to purchase any type of plugin so that we can restrict user/s to see other customer name ?

Hi @rayphvin ,

I'm trying to understand your requirement.

Firstly, are we talking a Jira Software or Jira Service Management project here? (since you mention customers). Are they creating a support request thru the portal then?

If so, does a single customer need to be able to select out of several customer-installations or is it always a 1 to 1 link?

Ans. - we have both licenses software and service management. they are the customers for us so Yes they will create product related issues through portal.

We have added multiple customers under one project but we wanted to restrict all customer users to specific to their customer name in drop down.

I hope its clear now :)

It does thank you :)

Well one of the options I can think of is

Not allowing them to set it themselves but using an automation to set it for them.

If these customers come from a specific mail domain/mail domains you could use a "Domain of User" custom field to get their @somedomain from their userid and with that you could set up an automation to auto set the field.

You could also look at the proforma app (which was recently acquired by Atlassian) as it allows for more dynamic forms to be created.

when I hear limiting the values of a field I also think about using Insight custom field (but that requires you to set up a CMDB and also having a premium plan)

If this is a one to one relationship (customer from company x/organization x will have value y in the dropdown field) I still feel like an automation might be the way to go.
