Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 21:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×Are you preparing for your Cloud certification exam (ACP-120 and ACP-620)?
Here's some guidance from the folks at Atlassian University to help you set up your own Jira sandbox!
(Need a Data Center sandbox? Enroll today for FREE in Atlassian University's Exam Success Course for ACP-100 Jira Administration exam to get sandbox setup guidance for Data Center exams ACP-100 and ACP-610.)
Which pricing plan do I need?
Both the ACP-620 and ACP-120 certifications test on features contained in the Standard pricing plan (e.g. Project roles, Advanced permissions, and Anonymous access) plus the project archiving feature included in Premium. So you will want to have at least the Standard plan.
How much does it cost?
The Standard plan costs $7 per user per month. You can take advantage of the 7-day free trial. You can cancel at any time.
How many users do I need?
It is useful to have at least two users. One will be the Atlassian account that creates the site. This will become the product admin for Jira and the organization admin for the organization/site created. The second account should be a non-admin user. You can then see the features and functionality available to them. You can make this second account a regular end-user in one project and a project administrator in another.
How do I set up the site?
First, if you’re not already logged into your Atlassian account, then log in at Atlassian. Note that this will be the Atlassian account that creates the site and becomes the organization admin. So you may wish to do so under your company’s email address or a personal email address instead. You do not need to do anything else here, once you are logged in. You just need to be logged in prior to creating a site in the step below.
Go to the Jira Pricing page in a new browser tab.
Click on the Start Trial button under the Standard Plan
Enter a test site name in the “Claim your site” box. Each Jira cloud site follows the naming convention https://sitename.atlassian.net. Atlassian will tell you if your desired name is available or prompt you to choose another one.
Click Agree. Atlassian will take 1-2 minutes to set up the new site.
On the screen “Select the tools you use the most” → click Skip
On the screen “Invite your team” → click Skip OR enter the email address of the other account(s) that you plan to use for testing. Then click Next.
On the screen “Help us set up Jira” → click Skip or choose an answer
On the screen “Choose a company-managed template” → choose Kanban and click Select. Give it a name and key and click Create.
Congratulations! You have just set up your brand new Jira Cloud test site.
Additional administrative settings are found under the Settings menu (the cogwheel icon next to your profile icon on the right-hand side of the screen).
User management → invite additional users to the site
Billing > Overview → see the bill estimate due at the end of the trial period.
Billing > Manage subscriptions → go here to change your plan. For example, change to Premium to try out the project archiving feature or change to Free to stop paying for the subscription. You can also cancel the subscription once you are done using the site.
