How can I get the numerical weights of select field or custom expression value in automation

Ohad Orbach August 26, 2025

I have some select fields (with weights) and a custom expression in my board, and I want to use them in automation in order to get a new value in a numerical custom field.

1) Can I get the numerical value from a custom expression in automation? currently getting an empty value what I call it.

2) I have select field with weights, i want to get the weights value from the field, how can I do it without mapping?

Hi @Ohad Orbach

For help with an Automation Rule it will help us to help you if you provide:

1. what type of project is this (e.g., company-managed, team-managed, etc.),

2. images that show your complete rule.

3. images showing the details of any relevant actions/conditions/branches.

4. images showing the Audit Log details for the rule execution.

5. Explain where the issue is.

These questions are not for not willing to help, but to have community members understand on how automation works.

Hi @Ohad Orbach

As I understand those fields are number fields so you can get value by using smart values {{issue.customfield_xxxxx}}.

Here you have more details about smart values - https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/smart-values-in-jira-automation/

The final value is a number but the type is custom expression so calling using smart values return None, also in the log.
