Migrate existing confluence users to active directory

We have a confluence instance being used from quite some time and now we are planning to integrate it with active directory. We want to migrate the users in confluence to active directory, How can we do this.

Do you usernames on the confluence instance match the ones in the LDAP instance? If yes, simply add the LDAP directory and delete the internal directory user.

If not, first rename the users in Confluence, then integrate with LDAP and then delete internal user.

Make sure you test on a staging instance.
