×Is there any way to be able to automatically transition a ticket to a certain status on creation?
That is, some ticket should be "Backlog" and some should be "Ready for Development", immediately on creation. But there's no way for us to do this, instead "Backlog" is the default and we are forced to find the ticket in the backlog view and transition it. This is redundant and wasteful for us.
Any idea how to accomplish this?
What is the condition in which you want to change the status to something other than the initial status? You can consider an add-on such as automation for JIra to accomplish this. There are other add-ons that will do this as well You should check to see if you have any such add-on that would allow you to do this.
Example:
- I create a new Ticket. It should be immediately sent to the "Ready for Development" status. Instead, it is always created in the backlog, and I am required to go to the ticket page, change its status to "Ready for Development", an extra manual step that is extremely wasteful.
- Alternatively, I can go to the Backlog view and change its status there by finding it in the Backlog list and right clicking and selecting "Ready for Development". Again, another extra manual step that is wasteful.
I knew that initial status when I created the ticket, but I have no way to select it.
Another pet peeve - when right clicking, there's a way to "Send to Top of Backlog", "Send to Bottom of Backlog", but no way to "Send to Top of Ready for Development", nor "Send to Bottom of Ready for Development".. I knew when creating this task that it should be at the top of priorities in the "Ready for Development" status group, or at least start there for drag-dropping to somewhere near the top.. but there is no way to set it when creating the ticket. So, I need to both change the status in an extra step and then drag-drop to the top of the group in an extra step..

If every ticket should go to Ready for Dev then make that your initial status and disable backlog altogether. If some issues should go to R4D while others to the backlog then use an addon, e.g. Automation for Jira, Scriptrunner, Powerscripts, etc.
