Simple Automation Rule not working (Destination status could not be resolved)

Brian Hennessey January 11, 2022

Hello Everyone,

currently, I am having a problem with a simple Jira Automation Rule that I want to use for a project. As seen in the list of rules that Atlassian created, I want the rule to be able to close the subtasks automatically, once the parent issue is done. As you can see in the included screenshot.

But when I try the automation and move an issue to "DONE", it does not move the subtask to "DONE" as well. Afterward, I can find the following error message in the audit log:

What exactly is the problem here? I do not really understand it.

Basic information about the project:

I am the admin, I am able to let issues transition in different statuses. I am currently only trying it for one project since I do not want it to mess up other projects. Also: I am only the "SITE ADMIN" and not the "ORG ADMIN", has this some kind of effect on it?

I already checked out and tried the solutions from the following post:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Service-Management/Destination-status-could-not-be-resolved-If-using-a-smart-value/qaq-p/1527767

But it still doesn't work. Is it because the Workflow does not allow for any issue to go straight to "DONE"? Or what can I do to fix it?

Hi @Brian Hennessey and welcome to the community!

You have to make sure that:

  • Subtasks workflow has the DONE status
  • A transition from every status to the DONE status exists. In other words, you have to place a global transition to DONE.

Hi, @Alex Koxaras _Relational_ thank you very much.

And thanks for the fast reply. That helped a lot, it works now.
